Energy Field is a multisensory art installation featuring paintings by Brooklyn-based artist and educator Melissa Staiger, accompanied by an immersive soundscape produced by Moodsonic in collaboration with the artist. The exhibit will be featured at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Brooklyn Infusion Center’s Community Art Gallery as part of an annual rotating exhibition program featuring the work of local Brooklyn artists.
Curated by Iris Jaffe and selected in collaboration with MSK patient representatives and staff at the Brooklyn Infusion Center, Energy Field will be on view from April 28, 2026 through April 2027.
Energy Field brings together light, color and sound to create an immersive environment centered on restoration and sensory experience. Conceived as a solarium — a space of light, warmth and quiet — the installation offers a moment of calm and multisensory delight for those coming to the center.
Staiger’s paintings explore color as an active, dynamic force. Built through layered acrylic paint, each composition emerges through accumulations of hue and texture. Organic and geometric forms radiate outward in wave-like patterns, suggesting growth, breath and transformation. Luminous color relationships draw the eye into a visual experience that is both meditative and energizing.
Installed in dialogue with Moodsonic’s nature-based soundscapes, the paintings become part of a larger multisensory environment. Prisms placed in the windows refract sunlight into shifting bands of color that move throughout the space, extending the visual experience beyond the canvas.
Research suggests that engagement with art can support wellbeing. Through this installation, MSK offers patients, caregivers, staff and visitors an opportunity to pause, observe and reflect on how the environment makes them feel.
Visitors are also invited to participate in the exhibition through a creative response activity. Colored pencils and drawing prompts will be available in the space, encouraging reflection through artmaking. Participants may take their drawings with them or contribute them to a shared display, allowing the exhibition to evolve through collective expression.
As part of its engagement with the local community, the MSK Brooklyn Infusion Center Community Art Gallery will participate in the 2026 Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk, May 9 to May 17, 2026, 12 to 6pm. This 1.5-mile, free, self-guided event will feature artwork from 125 emerging and established Brooklyn artists at 65+ participating businesses. During the remainder of the exhibition run, Energy Field will be officially open to MSK patients, visitors, and staff.
